If dumb zombies are a major problem, then smart zombies are a nightmare. They've evolved from the regular, slow-moving, mindless zombies, and have begun to think and plan on their own. The Infection has been mutating, creating various degrees of zombie that put one at a much higher risk. You should study these types, as they say, "knowing is half the battle".
THE STALKER
The stalker is one of the more cunning breeds, since it can plan a few steps ahead. Although largely effective in groups, The Stalker is more often known to be isolated from a large group, perferring to hunt alone. The Stalker is more agile than most other breeds, and can climb up several stories' height faster than the nromal human. The mutated form of the infection in Stalkers has increased their olfactory and occular nerves, allowing them to seek out and track prey in the dark. The Stalker has been known to hunt a single person for days on end, never needing food or rest before finally taking it's prey down. However, the nature of the Stalker's hunting patterns cause it to almost forget altogether about anyone else besides the person they're following. Additionally, the increased sensitivity in their occular nerves makes them vulnerable to bright light, so one will often find them prowling in the dark, though it has been recorded that an occaisional Stalker will hunt in the day. It is recommended that one travels during the day, and with at least one other person when going into an area inhabited by Stalkers.
THE ASSAULTER
The Assaulter, though not as smart as the Stalker, is just as deadly, if not deadlier. The Assaulter has mostly a search-and-destroy midset, finding one target and ruthlessly tearing at it until it's dead. The mutation of the infection in an Assaulter causes increased muscle mass and speed, making it more formidable when it's charging right at you. Assaulters have been known to heft small vehicles as though they were little more than ragdolls. The sheer mass, strength, and speed of an Assaulter has been known to strike fear into the person they're attacking, causing the person to freeze up in sheer terror as the Assaulter tears them apart. Though the Assaulter may seem indestructible and unstoppable, all one needs to do is calm down. The Assaulter has no improvements to it's mental processing abilities, so one can outsmart them. It's recommended that one carries heavy weaponry when facing an Assaulter. If not, it's also recommended that one finds some sort of trap to lure it into.
THE COMMANDER
Possibly the most dangerous type of zombie, due to its ability to communicate and order the other zombies. Usually in a crowd of regular undead, The Commander can direct the others into attacking and surrounding a person or group. The mutated infection of a Commander is more durable to vaccines or medicinal aid, but is weaker in its attempt to attack its host. The toughness of nerves prevents the infection from mutating them, so the virus destroys them instead, but even then can only do so partially. The hightened mind of a Commander is caused by the partial decay of the brain, leaving most of the thought processing ability of the Commander intact. Oddly enough, the Commander has even shown proof of emotion, stopping for a moment when they find something that they may remember from their previous life. But their need for sustenance comes first, and will attack a person that they may have known before they died if they are hungry enough. Despite the mental capabilities of the Commander, there are almost no Physical adaptations. In fact, the Commander moves slower, and is weaker than any other type of zombie, which is why it tends to hide behind the power of the masses. If one encounters a Commander, it is recommended that they take them out as oon as possible, for it is highly likely that the Commander will be surrounded by a large mob of undead.
THE VOMITER
The Vomiter is capable of shooting highly corrosive fluids from its mouth several dozen yards. The acid which the Vomiter...well, vomits, contains active forms of the virus. When killed, the Vomiter will expunge all of it's fluids on the closest thing to it, usually the person attacking it. BE extremely careful around this one, it's strengthened stomach-acid has been known to eat through glass. On the upside, Vomiters have very poor senses, so you could probably sneak by them relatively easily. Just make sure not to get caught, since to form or amount of cover will be able to protect you from the onslaught of corrosive juices. Since the Vomiter tends to be extremely powerful in close-quarters, it is recommended that one dispatches Vomiters with long-range, high-presicion sniper-rifles, since mid to close range is considered suicidal.
THE SCREECHER
The Screecher is a curious form of the virus which has taken hold over a small number of zombies. At first-glance, the Screecher may seem like a survivor who has been holed up in a closet or something, and is crying their heart out over what they have lost. Though it may seem strange when you see a few zombies in the same room while not attacking the survivor. This is because they can tell that the Screecher is not to be eaten. The Screecher, while seemingly docile, is highly fangerous and should not be confronted. If alerted (which many new people on the field tend to do when they see one) it will let out a devastating wail. This scream is several dozen times higher and more powerful than the level of sound which is decreed unsafe for humans. Don't think you can get close to one with proper ear-protection, because it's not the sound to your ears that will kill you. The relentless waves of sound are powerful enough to rupture internal organs and cause internal bleeding. Persons who are victims to this terrible experience usually recall being knocked out by the sheer intensity of the scream. Fortunately, the Screecher's wail is deadly at only a few meters, whereas a few meters beyond that is mostly paralyzing. Screechers are usually solitary, and are often found in dark closets or rooms. It's much easier to sneak by them than you think.
THE STRANGLER
The Strangler is also one of the more cunning types of zombie that inhabit Cadavernia, being just above the Stalker in terms of number of people who have died at the hands of them. The Strangler's virus has targeted it's digestive system, producing amazing (though disgusting) results. This type of zombie is capable of shooting out it's own intestines from its stomach to choke a person who is at least 50 yards away. The noxious fumes emitting from the rotten pieces of carrion in the cadaver's intestines often ends up weakening the victim from the sheer strength of the foul stench, leaving the survivor with little more capability than to struggle fruitlessly in hopes that the thing will let go. However, the Strangler is often occupied with one person that they end up being very easily exposed when choking someone. It is recommended that one travels with a close ally within a proximity of 25 yards whenever encountering areas which may hold Stranglers.
